Handwritten Note Containing Multiple Swastikas Found on GW Campus

ANDRE GONZALES//

University police are investigating after a handwritten note containing offensive language and multiple swastikas was found near the Science and Engineering Hall yesterday afternoon. The note, which was originally posted on the “Overheard at GW” Facebook page, was found by a student yesterday afternoon on the 23rd street side of SEH and was reported to GWPD shortly thereafter.

Swastikas appearing in D.C. universities is not a new phenomenon. In September 2017, multiple swastikas were found painted in a Georgetown University residence hall and in the same month, a 52 year-old man was charged with destruction of property and disturbing the operations of a school after he was accused of spray painting a swastika in a University of Maryland residence hall.

When asked for comment, a university spokesperson had the following to say: A hand-written note containing offensive language and drawings was found on the ground near Science and Engineering Hall and reported to GWPD on Sunday afternoon. The note does not contain specific threats nor does it appear to be directed toward the university or a specific individual associated with the university. Anyone with information about this incident can call GWPD at 202-994-TIPS.”
